Honda Financial Services Privacy Statement

I understand that Honda Canada Finance Inc. (HCFI), Honda Canada Inc. (Honda), and their affiliates, dealers and service providers will collect, maintain, use, disclose, combine and otherwise process my personal information and may share this information between themselves for purposes that may include (if applicable to me): (i) processing my credit application, including verifying information and evaluating credit worthiness; (ii) entering into and performing my purchase, finance or lease transaction, including lien and title registrations and insurance related activities; (iii) contract management and administration, including responding to customer inquiries, ongoing evaluation of credit worthiness, debt collection and vehicle recovery, and maintaining records for legal and accounting purposes; (iv) maintaining warranty and customer service records and conducting recall campaigns; (v) fraud detection and prevention; (vi) conducting market research, and customer service campaigns; (vii) providing me with marketing information; (viii) other applicable purposes described in the HCFI Privacy Policy or the Honda Privacy Policy located at www.honda.ca/privacy; and (ix) other purposes required or permitted by law. In some cases, such as credit checks, third parties will learn that I have applied for or been approved for credit and I understand that this may affect my credit with those third parties. I can contact HCFI and Honda at 180 Honda Boulevard, Markham, Ontario, L6C 0H9 or by telephone at 1-800-387-5399 (HCFI) and 1-888-946-6329 (Honda) if I wish to withdraw consent to these uses or to update or correct my personal information. Except for a withdrawal of consent to the uses in sections (vi) and (vii) above, I understand that Honda and HCFI may be entitled to terminate their relationship with me if I withdraw consent to the uses in this Privacy Statement. In some cases, personal information may be disclosed, processed and stored outside Canada, and therefore may be available to government authorities under lawful orders and laws applicable there.

Honda Financial Services Customer Privacy Policy

Honda Canada Finance Inc., o/a Honda Financial Services (“HFS”) offers financing and leasing options, as well as Honda-branded ancillary products, for Honda automobiles, power-sports products (including motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, and marine engines) and power equipment at HFS dealers across Canada (“HFS Products and Services”). When you purchase, use or interact with HFS Products and Services, you may be providing us with your personal information. HFS understands this is a big responsibility and respects the privacy of its valued customers, and is committed to ensuring that the personal information it collects is appropriately used and protected. HFS makes every effort to ensure that customers understand the nature, purposes and consequences of the collection, use or disclosure of their personal information.

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, personal information refers to any personally identifiable information about you, but does not include aggregate information that does not specifically identify you.

1. When does this Privacy Policy apply?

This Privacy Policy applies when you complete a transaction for HFS Products and Services or interact with HFS online or in person.

This Privacy Policy explains how HFS collects, uses and discloses personal information when you purchase, lease or use our Products and Services, email us or visit www.honda.ca/lease-and-finance and other online sites where this Privacy Policy is disclosed. This Privacy Policy also covers the information HFS may collect offline, for example when you call us or engage with HFS at an auto show or other event.

For your convenience, HFS’ websites may contain links to third-party websites. These third-party websites have separate privacy policies and data collection practices. This Privacy Policy does not cover those websites and HFS is not responsible for their privacy practices.

There is also a Privacy Policy for Honda Canada Inc. (“Honda”), which can also be found at www.honda.ca/privacy. Honda’s Privacy Policy also applies to you if you complete a transaction for Honda-branded products and services or interact with Honda online or in person.

2. What Personal Information Does HFS Collect?

HFS collects and aggregates personal information that you may provide in completing your transaction(s) with HFS, which may include your contact information, information from your HFS Products and Services, and other information from the devices or accounts you use to interact with HFS.

The following are examples of personal information we collect.

  • Information you provide: HFS collects personal information that will enable HFS to identify you and fulfill the particular purposes as described in this Privacy Policy or at the time of collection. If you apply for credit (whether approved or not), this personal information will include your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number(s), driver’s licence, employment history, financial information, your credit score and information HFS obtains from third parties to verify the information in your application. If you enter into a lease or financing transaction, HFS will also collect your driver’s licence, insurance information, telematics data from your Honda products, if applicable (as described in the Honda Connected Vehicle Data Privacy Policy, the type and model of Honda product or HFS Products and Services you own, and the purchase, service and/or repair history of your Honda product that relates to your HFS Products and Services.

  • Technical website information: HFS also automatically collects personal and technical information from the devices you use to connect to HFS’ websites, using cookies, web beacons and other digital markers. This information may include your IP address, unique device identifiers, browser type, internet service provider, hardware model, operating system and application version. When you use or interact with HFS’ websites, HFS may also record certain information and store it in log files, including location information, referring and exit pages, time and date stamp, search terms and clickstream data. Some or all of this information may constitute personal information if HFS can use it to personally identify you. You may be able to configure your browser or device settings to control what information HFS collects.   • Social media and third party information: You also may log into some of your HFS accounts using your social networking account credentials. If you do this, you may be granting HFS access to obtain information from these sites such as your profile data, avatar, name and/or user name, network connections, and other information associated with your particular social networking account.   • Career information: HFS receives and may store personal information provided to HFS when you apply for employment with HFS or any of its affiliated companies on www.honda.ca/careers or other websites. This information may include: name; educational and employment background; contact information; job qualifications; and jobs for which you may wish to be considered. You may choose to provide additional information, such as your resume, CV, employment references, and salary requirements. Your provision of this information in connection with seeking employment at HFS is voluntary and you determine the extent of the information you provide. Your decision not to provide such information may affect HFS’ ability to consider you for employment. This information is not shared except as necessary for employment decisions.

  • Communications and interactions: If you email, call, visit or otherwise interact with HFS, HFS may collect the information you provide during those communications, such as the content of your comments, complaints, feedback and inquiries.

3. How Does HFS Collect Your Personal Information?

In most cases, HFS collects information about you when you provide it to HFS. HFS collects your personal information from your transactions and ways that you interact with HFS. Also, like many websites, HFS automatically collects technical information when you visit and interact with HFS websites and online services.

HFS collects this information directly from you and from HFS dealers, affiliates, service providers, and onboard vehicle systems (such as Event Data Recorders and telematics systems). HFS may also collect information from third parties (such as consumer reporting agencies, credit granting institutions, and your employer) in connection with your credit application. HFS may also collect information from third parties for fraud detection and prevention and enforcement of HFS’s rights during the performance of your lease or financing transaction. If you are in default, we may activate and use geolocation and other technologies in your vehicle, including those provided by third party services, to assist in the recovery of the vehicle.

HFS will collect personal information at the point of purchase or service, through customer service surveys, when you make customer service inquiries, when HFS responds to your requests for information, or, in the case of information from an onboard vehicle system, when you use your Honda vehicle that is being financed or leased through HFS (as described in the Honda Connected Vehicle Data Privacy Policy).

HFS also collects information that you provide during visits to HFS websites, including any online HFS account you have created. This may include information about your HFS Products and Services and applicable Honda products, any HFS Products and Services and Honda products in which you may be interested, your contact information (such as phone number, home and email address, etc.), your HFS dealer and language preferences, and contest entry information.

To better understand your needs as a HFS customer, and improve HFS Products and Services and the provision of these HFS Products and Services to you by HFS and HFS dealers, HFS may occasionally send you customer surveys which ask you to provide information regarding your customer experience, personal preferences, and lifestyle demographics.

4. Online Analytics and Interest-Based Advertising Policy

Like many websites, HFS uses web-tracking tools to collect information about your use of HFS’s website and your online activities, so that HFS can better understand your web browsing and marketing preferences. 5. How Does HFS Use Your Personal Information?

HFS may use your personal information for the particular reason it was collected, as well as to market HFS Products and Services, administer your HFS account relating to your HFS Products and Services, and to improve HFS’ operations and HFS Products and Services by analyzing the data you have provided.

HFS may use your personal information to:

  • process your credit application, including verifying information and evaluating credit worthiness
  • enter into and perform transactions for the use, purchase, finance or lease of Honda products or HFS Products and Services, including lien and title registrations and insurance activities;
  • manage and administer your lease or financing transaction, including ongoing evaluation of credit, vehicle recovery; debt collection and maintaining records for legal and accounting purposes
  • maintain our warranty and customer service records;
  • advise you of any warranty, product recalls, customer service campaigns, or customer notices regarding your Honda product or HFS Products and Services;
  • improve the operation and administration of independently owned and operated HFS dealers;
  • better understand your needs and preferences as a HFS customer based on your usage and feedback, so HFS can improve HFS Products and Services and develop new HFS Products and Services;
  • market HFS Products and Services to you, including targeted personalised marketing based on your information and interests;
  • administering contests and promotions that you have entered;
  • respond to your comments or requests for information;
  • utilize telematics services in your Honda products that relate to your HFS Products and Services, as further described in the Honda Connected Vehicle Data Privacy Policy;
  • perform market research, and aggregate your data to analyze trends and develop internal reports;
  • protect against fraud or error;
  • enforce our legal rights and compliance with our terms and conditions;
  • meet legal and governmental obligations;
  • meet internal business purposes; and
  • fulfill other purposes we may identify at the time of collection.

6. How Does HFS Share Your Personal Information?

HFS may share and disclose your personal information with its dealers, affiliates, service providers or marketing providers as appropriate, or as otherwise permitted or required by law.

HFS will share your personal information with its affiliates such as Honda, HFS dealers, and trusted service providers who assist in marketing HFS Products and Services or managing and processing your personal information, based on our instructions and in compliance with HFS’s Privacy Policy and confidentiality and security requirements. Some examples include HFS vendors that provide data hosting, marketing and promotional administration assistance, and customer service surveys and initiatives.

HFS may also share your information, publicly or with our partners, in a non-identifiable, aggregated form – for example, to determine trends about the general use of HFS Products and Services and the demographics of HFS customers.

HFS will disclose your personal information in order to verify information on your credit application. HFS may also disclose your personal information to third-parties: if HFS has a good-faith belief that such disclosure is required by law (for example, to prevent potential harm to HFS, its customers, or the public); in connection with a government inquiry or law enforcement activities; to enforce our legal rights; in litigation or dispute resolution; or to detect, prevent or address fraud or security issues.

Your personal information may be transferred to third parties if you have entered into a lease or financing transaction that is transferred or assigned to a third party or third parties. Your personal information may also be disclosed to third parties in connection with the due diligence for, and completion of, a business transaction, including, without limitation, the sale of all or substantially all the assets of HFS or Honda, or a securitization or financing involving HFS, Honda or their subsidiaries or affiliates.

7. Your Consent and Electronic Messages

HFS may send you promotional emails, text messages or other electronic messages based on its business relationship with you, or if you have expressly opted in to receive such communications. HFS may also send electronic messages about Honda product recalls, changes to your HFS account and other important information.

You will receive email, text or other promotional electronic messages from HFS if you have:

  • provided your express consent to receive these messages;
  • an existing or recently expired agreement for HFS Products and Services, or some other form of business relationship with HFS; or
  • requested information from HFS.

Any electronic message that you receive from HFS will identify HFS as the sender, include HFS contact information, and provide for a means of unsubscribing from further electronic messages.

HFS may also, from time to time, supply you with the opportunity to provide your consent to any or all of HFS’s dealers or select marketing partners, who may provide you with information about their products and services. These third parties will be responsible for any electronic messages that they choose to send you, but, in the case of messages sent on HFS’s behalf, will enable you to also unsubscribe from further HFS electronic messages.

In some limited circumstances, HFS may contact you via email, text or other electronic means even if you have not provided your consent, or even if you have already unsubscribed from HFS electronic communications. This could happen in important situations, such as to inform you about an update to HFS Products and Services, or because of changes to your HFS account.

8. Your Consent and Telemarketing Calls

HFS may call you based on its business relationship with you, or if you have expressly opted in to receive automatic dialing-announcing device (autodialer) calls. HFS may also call you about Honda product recalls and other important HFS Product and Service information.

You may receive telemarketing calls from HFS if you have provided your express consent to receive autodialer calls or have an existing or recently expired agreement for HFS Products and Services or some other form of business relationship with HFS, and have not requested to be removed from the HFS or National Do-Not-Call List within the time period in which HFS must update its records.

Any telemarketing or autodialer calls that you receive from HFS will identify the name(s) of HFS and the individual making the call (if applicable), provide for a means of contacting HFS, and include such other disclosures as may be required from time to time.

In some limited circumstances, HFS may be permitted to call you even if you have not provided your consent or do not have an existing or recently expired business relationship with HFS, or even if you have already requested to be placed on the HFS or National Do-Not-Call List. This could happen in important situations such as to inform you about a Honda product recall or an important change to HFS Products and Services.

9. HFS Safeguards Your Personal Information

HFS maintains and safeguards your personal information using robust security standards, and treats access to your personal information as a highly confidential matter. HFS will delete your personal information when it is no longer necessary or relevant, subject to legal retention requirements. Your personal information may be stored and processed inside or outside of Canada.

HFS maintains robust safekeeping protocols, including the use of data security and encryption standards, to preserve the confidentiality of your personal information and to ensure that it is only used for the purposes that HFS has identified. HFS regularly reviews its collection, storage, and processing practices to prevent unauthorized access to its systems. HFS restricts access to your personal information to only those HFS associates, affiliates, and service providers who require that information to carry out the identified purposes, and anyone with this access is subject to strict confidentiality obligations.

Please note that you are solely responsible to maintain the confidentiality of any password(s) relating to your ownership and use of HFS Products and Services.

HFS retains your personal information only as long as necessary or relevant for the purposes identified when you provided the personal information, for any new purposes identified and to which you have consented, or as required by law.

Your personal information may be stored and/or processed or otherwise used by or on behalf of HFS both inside and outside of Canada. If a HFS service provider is located outside Canada, your personal information may be processed and stored in a country that has laws that are different from those in Canada (e.g. the United States), and where the government may be able to obtain disclosure of your personal information under those local laws.

While HFS encourages its HFS dealers to fully comply with all applicable privacy legislation, each HFS dealer is a separate legal entity, independent from HFS, and solely responsible for its own compliance with applicable laws.

You can contact HFS at any time to discuss or update your personal information that HFS has on file.

HFS will make best efforts to ensure that your personal information is accurate and up-to-date. If you wish to access or correct your personal information or to advise HFS not to use your information for sales or marketing purposes, you may contact HFS toll free at 1-800-387-5399 (from 8:00am – 8:00pm ET Monday to Friday). You can also unsubscribe or withdraw your consent to receive commercial electronic messages at any time using the unsubscribe method provided in the communication or by contacting HFS at the number above.

You must agree with this Privacy Policy in order to share your personal information with HFS.
